About CERP Providers
CERP Providers are individuals or organizations that offer continuing education that meets the learning needs of IBCLCs and have had their continuing education reviewed and approved by IBLCE for Continuing Education Recognition Points (CERPs). CERPs are the pre-approved professional education units awarded by the IBLCE to sessions at conferences, courses, workshops, independent study modules and to other educational materials or programs which are appropriate continuing education for IBCLCs. Why Become a CERP Provider?Residing within the countries served by IBLCE in the Americas, there are more than 11,000 IBCLCs. These health care professionals have shown their commitment to breastfeeding familiesand the field of lactation by their pursuit of a credential that signifies expertise in lactation consulting. This growing marketof IBCLCs has shown a high level of interest in continuing education, and they are particularly interested in programswhere they can earn CERPs. Having your program pre-approved for CERPs will make it more attractive to IBCLCs. IBCLCs are required to document completion of 75 CERPs within the five year period since they most recently passed the certification exam. The IBLCE specifies that at least 50 of the required 75 CERPs must be lactation specific. In addition, IBCLCs are required to demonstrate at least five (5) CERPs from education about professional ethics. Although not required for recertification, programs related to the practice of lactation consultants are also reviewed and approved for CERPs. If you offer continuing education specific to human lactation and/or professional ethics for health care providers, your programs are especially appropriate for IBCLCs.
