Why Become a CERPs Provider?

Residing within the countries served by IBLCE in the Americas, there are more than 14,000 IBCLCs and worldwide, there are more than 25,000 IBCLCs. This growing market of IBCLCs has a high level of interest  and need for continuing education that is designed for them. Specifically, they are interested in educational activities through which  they can earn CERPs.

IBCLCs are required to document completion of education that has been awarded CERPs. Within the 5 year period since they most recently passed the IBLCE exam, they must accumulate a minimum of  75 CERPs. Having your educational activities approved for CERPs before the date on which they will be offered will give you the advantage of being able to more effectively market your education to the growing number of IBCLCs.

Who Becomes a CERPs Provider?

CERPs Providers include individuals, groups or organizations offering:

  • One time only program or course
  • Annual seminar or conference
  • A course or workshop that is offered multiple times
  • Independent study modules
  • Distance education
  • Lactation education through local group or association meetings

IBLCE designates two categories of CERPs Providers--Short Term and Long Term Providers.

Short Term Providers (STP) must submit each educational activity to IBLCE for consideration and may not assign CERPs to their education. IBLCE has the sole authority to approve CERPs for education provided by STPs. CERPs approval for STPs is valid for one use only, although, the STP may seek approval to repeat the program within the year in which it was originally approved for CERPs. Please consult the Guide for Short-Term Providers of CERP-Approved Education for details.

Long Term Providers (LTPs) are given the authority on behalf of IBLCE to award CERPs to their educational activities. This authority comes with specific requirements and restrictions. The agreement between IBLCE and Long Term Providers is valid for 3 years so long as the LTP adheres to all requirements. If you are interested in becoming an LTP, please download the Guide for Long Term Providers of CERP-Approved Education.
